Upcoming Events
The Rochester Coalition for Public Education, in partnership with Rochester's Writers & Books and the Rochester Teachers Association will be hosting a "Community Read" this Fall, using the book, "The Testing Charade: Pretending to Make Schools Better," by Daniel Koretz. Our purpose is to encourage discussion, problem-solving and action on what our Coalition knows to be one of the most harmful elements of public education: high-stakes, standardized testing. The "Community Read" will involve the following elements:
- Encouraging the public and all educators and policy makers to read Koretz's book,
- A free presentation to the public, by Daniel Koretz, on September 27th, 5:15-7:00 pm, at the Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue.
- Follow-up discussion/problem-solving/action groups, hosted at schools and other organizations, during October. (Specific dates, times & locations are forthcoming.)
We encourage all Rochester-area citizens to participate. If anyone is interested in hosting a follow-up discussion group on the topic, please contact Coalition Coordinator, Dan Drmacich at dandrmacich123@gmail.com
